We were all reunited yesterday afternoon after we got back from our mini vacation. We saw the cats first since we had to unpack our car (we brought so much stuff back with us, it was almost good we didn’t bring Sammie along – she probably wouldn’t have fit)!
When we arrived at the boarding facility (aka the woman’s home), I had to keep myself from running I was so excited to see Sammie. As we walk in, we see Sammie standing in the back corner kennel right where we left her, looking at us with her ears perked up. We rush back there and get her out and it was like one of those homecoming videos you see all over the internet. She was in our faces and laps giving us kisses, tail wagging 120mph, obviously SUPER excited to see us. Aaron walked out with her while I paid and got the originals of her vaccination history back. The owner said she was super sweet, had done really well, and she hoped we’d be back. Her son said that he wasn’t sure who had taught whom, but she and the dog next to her had chewed on the towels and blankets that had been laid in there for them. I told him it was probably Sammie who had done the teaching on THAT trick and that I was sorry.
We took her to the car to drive her home, and she sniffed around the backseat like she’d never seen it before (while Aaron’s vehicle is new-to-him, it’s not THAT new-to-him). It almost seemed like she couldn’t settle down! I think she was wondering where we were going to take her next… When we pulled in to the house, she was again so excited she could hardly stand it – I tried to take her along the side of the house to potty but she just wanted to go inside. I don’t know what was more exciting to her: seeing her people or going back HOME. She just wriggled all over!
Aaron and I spent the evening snuggled on the couch, Sammie never too far away. When we went to bed, she happily curled up (first in my spot and then on the other side of her daddy) and went to sleep. It was like those first nights after we brought her home in that we had to wake up and take her out once during the night. I hope this has shown her we’ll always come back for her!
Also, today is the first day of December which means I’m busting out the Christmas decorations!! I’m also over half way done with my Christmas shopping and feel pretty good about it all. Let’s hope everyone else feels the same once they get them…
