Cat (Attempts) to Play with Dog

Yup! You read that right.

When we went to visit Aaron’s parents for Thanksgiving, they gave us two bar stools for our kitchen. I have wanted some since we moved in, AND THESE WERE FREE. That’s the best part. Another great part is how much the cats love to get up there and perch – they’re slightly higher than other places they’re allowed to go. Of course, their fur sticks to the fabric (which I think must be an added bonus for them) but they clean off easily (which is a bonus for the people who might sit on one) so they’re perfect.

Anyway – I think being up a little higher has given Tubby some confidence, like he can’t be touched. Every time he’s up there and Sammie walks by, he swats at her. This isn’t the “Get away from me, beast!” bat like Frou still does, but is more like a “Hey, pay attention to me!” bat, like the cats might do to each other. Sammie hasn’t really responded, which is a little disappointing. I was hoping she’d get excited and they’d play and he’d see she won’t hurt him and then they’d be friends. Not quite yet, but I think we’re on the right track now.

In addition, Sammie, Frou, and Tubby still curl up together at night on the bed next to me. Aaron said they had butts touching butts the other night. I wish I had woken up to see it!

Your cats have a “batting perch” now with those bar stools. Cats are silly, aren’t they! But it is good to know that in the end, every can fall asleep touching butts & fall asleep happy! LOL

Those first few weeks (shoot, their first meeting) had us worried, but everyone gets along fairly well now! I’m so relieved…

Phew! Glad to hear your kiddies get along well. I know that when Nikita first saw Bella, I think she was saying “hey, when is this OTHER dog leaving?” But, time bonded them very close to each other. It is so sweet to watch!

I agree! I think it’s always a relief when you can introduce animals and they get along.

You’re doing well. It’s been nearly four years and our sister cats still want nothing to do with us.

Hi, I wanted to share what finally turned the corner with one of my cats who was very reluctant to be touched. I quit trying! Now she comes to me. It has to be on her terms.

I’ve been letting them work it out on their own terms, and it’s gradually getting better. I’m just impatient!!
