Sleepover

Our new mattress has arrived and it is absolutely glorious…

It came Friday between lunch and getting off work, so we spent the evening getting it out of the box and all set up. The only space big enough to fit it while it expanded to its full size (over the course of three days!) is the bed. Luckily, the directions said we could sleep on it while it fluffed up. It really is fantastic.

Saturday, we loaded up the car – Sammie and all – and headed to Columbia to see Aaron’s brother and sister-in-law.

Upon arrival, Sammie went CUH-RAY-ZEE. She ran around their backyard like she was possessed, treeing squirrels and chasing after ones that she could see/smell in the tippity-tops of the trees. She never did settle down, but we finally brought her in because we had to go: we were meeting the rest of Aaron’s family for dinner and a play (A Christmas Carol). IT WAS FANTASTIC. I highly recommend the Lyceum Theatre if you’re ever in the area.

The next morning, we left fairly early to take Sammie to the huge dog park they have there in town. I brought my camera but didn’t get any pictures because it was so incredibly cold. She LOVED it though. There was a Doberman there who actually belonged to someone I knew from back home – her son graduated a year behind me – and they got along famously. As we were leaving (my ears were hurting so badly and Aaron was in shorts), Sammie runs back to another dog she sees to romp around with it for a second. She realized we weren’t close any more and raced back to us. She is so pretty when she runs full-out like that… And we had one exhausted pooch the rest of the night!

I think Sammie is still worn out from her trip to the dog park – thank goodness… We have a lot more traveling to do this week and we need her on her best behavior. Three more days until Christmas!!

Happy holiday, friends (:

Lots of adventure and excitement this week, and a perfect time of year for a new mattress. You’ll need the sleep!

I think the best way to get a dog to behavior is to wear them out! Sammie is absolutely beautiful. I am a big fan of German Shepherds and it looks like Sammie is one or mostly one!

Since we rescued her from the local animal shelter, we’re not sure if she’s 100% or mixed, but she’s definitely a German! We used to take her to the dog park every other day for a good romp, but since it gets dark at 5pm, we can’t do it any more. That’s why weekends are SO IMPORTANT now. The rest of the week is spent playing fetch, training, and running in the backyard.
