New Dog Food

I’ve recently been looking for a different dog food for Sammie. We messed up this last time – instead of buying her Purina Pro Plan, we bought her Purina One Sensitive Systems and she’s been extremely itchy ever since. Unfortunately, I can’t figure out why! The ingredients lists are not all that different between the two (except for the order of ingredients). And, while Sammie’s itchiness DID get better on the Purina Pro Plan, she never did quit chewing on her paws. The hunt for a better dog food was on again!

GF_SalmonAfter reading a review of one of their products on The Rufus Way, I started looking into Merrick dog food. With their limited, natural ingredients, I decided to try her on the Grain Free Real Salmon & Sweet Potato Recipe dry dog food. She’s now denied poultry AND grains. Hopefully this will finally clear things up for her! Anyway, I ordered it online from Chewy on December 22, and it arrived Christmas Eve (talk about fast delivery!). Sammie has seemed to enjoy it so far, but it’s too soon to tell whether it’s helping or not. Besides, we’re still mixing in a little of her old dog food to wean her onto this new one.

Wish us luck!

The right dog food DOES make all the difference. I remember when Bella was a little puppy and all around her mouth was inflamed and red. The vet prescribed an antibiotic for her that did nothing, until I read that it could be a “food allergy”. We changed her food and it cleared up within a few days! We were so happy & amazed too. I will never forget that ever!

And, back in October, our vet told us that Nikita needed to lose some weight. They told us to get Purina Pro Plan Weight Management which we purchased that day. The next vet visit, we were glad to see that she lost almost 5 pounds and was close to the weight she should be at. We learned our lesson, that you need to be aware of what you feed your dog. Her old dog food was high in calories and that is why she was gaining weight.

Our best lesson was about the food allergy that Bella got from her puppy food. Once we changed it, her allergic reaction & mouth inflamation went away.

Wow! That’s so amazing. Do you know what it was that she was allergic to? I’m so glad the foods you’ve researched and gotten have worked for her!!

I can’t remember what she was fed when she was a puppy, but she was close to getting out of the puppy food stage and into adult anyways, but I am glad that once we switched, her face cleared up. It is amazing that it was a food allergy. Both Nikita and Bella love the food that I mentioned earlier and can’t get enough of it, and it has helped Nikita with her weight management a great deal.
