Tubby is definitely the more curious of our two cats. He’s more willing to come out and greet visitors and he LOVES going outside:
He’s also OBSESSED with ceiling fans, specifically the strings that hang from them. I thought that was the extent of his fascination with ceiling fixtures, but it would seem that is not the case.
The other day, I was sitting on the couch catching up on one of my TV shows when I look over and see Tubby standing on the back of one of the dining room chairs, reaching up to try and grab the chandelier. For a guy who is not known for his grace, I was amazed at how well he was balancing on two legs on such a narrow ledge. So I kept watching.
Eventually, he fell off and landed on the table, but he was not deterred. He used his new, lower, more stable perch to reach for the chandelier. And what do you know – he got it. It spun round and round and I giggled, thinking that was his end game.
Instead, he got back on the dining room chair, reached out with his paws, grabbed the chandelier, and PULLED IT TOWARD HIM! Afraid his weight might pull it out of the ceiling completely (I don’t like the brass chandelier with the fake candles, but it’s infinitely better than no light at all or a gaping hole in the ceiling), I finally interfered and shoo’d him away. I have a feeling this won’t be his last attempt at getting ahold of the chandelier, though…
