I believe I’ve told you about the spider that has taken up residence in the area between our kitchen window and outside screen.
I’ve decided to name her Alberta! She’s been fascinating to watch, especially since I am not overly fond of spiders, and this has given me a safe way to learn more about them.
Since she has taken up residence in our window, I have watched her net increase in size, I have marveled at how much she’s grown, and I’ve learned that spiders molt their exoskeleton like snakes do! We thought her first molting was another spider she ate, hence the female name.
For the most part, she hangs out in the one area you see in the picture, but I’ve also seen her really active after a rain, and I’ve learned where she hides when she’s startled (there’s a tunnel she can dart down toward the outside bottom corner of the space). I look forward to learning more about her, but I hope that she doesn’t have babies that swarm out of the space she’s created for herself! That would really freak me out…
As much as I am afraid of spiders, it took a real act of will to not pulverize the writing spiders we had outside the house last year. I even named them: Charlotte and mini-charlotte. Original, I know. I think mini-charlotte is back this year, all grown up. It was fun to learn about them-thank you Mr Google- and watch them. Plus, I think I gained points in the blogging community for not annihalating them!

That’s how I’ve felt lately! If they help cut down on mosquitos or flies, I’m okay with them hanging out around our yard – just don’t let them touch me!

I saw a giant spider out back under our kitchen window and Alcide startled him one morning. I was like ahh he looks like a grandpa spider (slow moving and fat) I told my fiance about him and he said ” he could’ve been fat and a gpa spider but also “she” couldve been pregnant” eek!! I haven’t seen the spider since 😒 but that’s cool with Albera that you can watch from a safe distance

Blah!! Fat and pregnant. That would be fine outside where I don’t have to see them. I’ve had nightmares about swarms of spiders, so I don’t know that I could handle seeing one in real life!

I’m pretty sure Mom and I would’ve packed up our kibbles and toys and moved to a new house by now. Yikes!
Love and licks,

We made the bats leave before we moved in, so Alberta doesn’t seem so bad in comparison!

Is she writing messages in her webs? If so, tell her to leave this piggy a message that says, “Some Pig”! Snorts with piggy laughter. XOXO – Bacon

Hopefully she’ll stick around through Halloween. Saves you the trouble of decorating.

She looks so big in the picture! Is that another smaller spider next to her? She’s frighteningly intriguing and just in time for Halloween.

That’s actually the most recent exoskeleton she’s shed in the picture with her! Isn’t that incredible?!

I have a similar friend living in my shower. She’s been there for since August and is getting huge! It’s so nice to know there are other like minded souls out there 🙂

I think you’re much braver than me, letting her grow in your shower! I would probably freak out if she got so close when I was so… Vulnerable. 😉

I must admit at first it was unnerving. For all of us. She seemed like she wanted to fight us any time we stepped into the shower. In the end we became quite fond of her and she calmed down, coming out to see us but mostly she ignored us and killed things. She was fascinating to watch! She’s moved on now and we miss her, strangely enough!

We have actually really enjoyed watching our spider as well. We saw her catch something the other day, and it was incredible!

We used to have a tarantula who was named Alice. Not that she ever came when called. LOL Enjoy. They are fascinating to watch, especially at night when they are on the prowl.

Not your ‘average mainstream’ pet but a cool critter nonetheless.
